My parents worked at Circuit City at about the time Carmax was started. Everyone was kind of like, why are we delving into cars again?

Because you can't walk into a dealership, sit in the car and play with all the features, and then go home and buy it online for 20% less.

I worked at Circuit City for a few years in high school/early college…and when they went under. Circuit City still exists online, they're owned by Systemax, more commonly referred to as Tiger Direct.

When I was in high school I used to love going to Circuit City. The one near me had a way more legit listening room for home stereo equipment than Best Buy and you could go in there and screw around for a pretty long time with nobody bothering you, surprisingly. I'd mess with the car stereo stuff too. I spent way too much time at Circuit City. Didn't buy all that much though. Maybe that's why they went out of business?
That location is now an H.H. Gregg .

CC used to do all my auto sound work.
subs, speakers, everything. Always had better options/prices than best buy.
